Repetitive Stress Injuries
Tissue damage caused by repetitive usage or stress to muscles and tendons.
Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is a term to describe a number of conditions such as tenosynovitis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, and myofascial pain syndromes. RSI's occur from repeated physical movements that do damage to the soft tissue such as tendons, muscles nerves and fascia. Poor posture, altered biomechanics, excessive force during an activity and infrequent rest breaks may also contribute to the development of an RSI. Symptoms may include stiffness, burning, aching or throbbing sensations, numbness and tingling, a cold sensation or weakness of the affected area.
Laser therapy can assist with the recovery and healing of an RSI by its ability to stimulate circulation and improve lymphatic flow relieving swelling and stiffness); increase endorphin production and release (reducing pain); and increase cellular activity to repair and promote healing of the damaged tissue.
